Weeding boxes, weeding lines, HTV mirroring, kiss-cut and die-cut contours, roll layouts and usage figures for a vinyl plotter.
The design is rarely the hard part of a vinyl job; weeding is. A plotter cuts a 2 m wall quote in four minutes and an operator then spends forty pulling the waste out from between letters with a pick. A weeding box around the design and a grid of weeding lines that stay clear of the letters cut that time to a fraction, because the waste comes away in small, predictable pieces instead of one sticky sheet.
The tools in this group add that production geometry, handle the mirroring that heat transfer vinyl and inside-glass work demand, generate contour and kiss-cut lines around printed artwork, and estimate how much of a roll a job consumes. Every output is a PLT or DXF the plotter driver reads directly, in millimetres, with the cut lines on their own layer.

Welded, mirrored if needed, with a weeding box — ready for the plotter.

Weeding Box Generator draws a box 5 to 10 mm outside the design. Automatic Weeding Lines add horizontal and vertical cuts between letters and rows, trimmed so they never enter the clearance zone around a letter.
Tick mirror for heat transfer vinyl or inside-glass decals. Vinyl Roll Layout and Vinyl Roll Nesting arrange several designs along a roll of your width to use the least length.
Vinyl Usage Calculator and Vinyl Waste Calculator report the roll length needed and the waste. Export PLT for the plotter driver or DXF for cutting software.
Keep weeding lines 2 to 3 mm clear of the artwork. Closer and the blade nicks a letter; further and the waste pieces get large enough to tear the letters when they lift. The tools default to 2.5 mm.
HTV is cut on its carrier with the adhesive up, so the design must be mirrored. Mirror for Heat Transfer Vinyl flips the file; nothing else about it changes. Glitter and flock HTV need a deeper blade and wider minimum strokes (3 mm).
A kiss cut goes through the vinyl and stops at the backing paper, so stickers stay on their sheet. A die cut goes through the backing as well. The Kiss-Cut Line Generator exports both contours on separate layers with the die-cut offset a few millimetres outside.
A 45-degree blade needs about 0.25 mm of offset, which the plotter driver applies. Letters under 10 mm tall still cut, but the corners round and the weeding becomes slow. Consider print-and-cut for tiny text.
Any plotter or driver that reads HPGL: Graphtec, Roland, Summa, Mimaki, GCC, Silhouette (via its business software) and the common Chinese cutters (Liyu, Redsail, Rabbit, Teneth). Units are 40 per millimetre, the HPGL standard.
Enter the design size, quantity and gap in the Vinyl Usage Calculator. It reports the roll length including a waste allowance, and the Waste Calculator shows what fraction becomes offcut, which is what to charge for.
For a design that is easier to apply as its negative: the letters are removed from a rectangle of vinyl so the wall colour shows through as the text. It is also how frosted-glass privacy bands with cut-out logos are made.
Yes. Design, weeding box, weeding lines, kiss-cut and die-cut contours each go to their own layer in DXF and SVG, and to separate pen numbers in PLT, so the cutter can run them in order or skip any of them.
